How to Play Roll Up Roll Up – The Ultimate Guide

1. The Basics

Roll Up Roll Up is a two-player dice game that can be played for money or for fun. The object of the game is to score points by rolling certain combinations of numbers on the dice.

1. Equipment

You'll need two sets of six dice each for this game. One set is used by each player.

1. The Play Area

The play area is a square or rectangular table in the middle of which are placed four markers, one at each corner. These markers indicate the boundaries of the play area. Each player also has a scoring track, which runs along one edge of the table nearest to them. This track record players' scores as they accumulate them during the game.

1. The Play Sequence

The play sequence in Roll Up Roll Up is as follows:

1) The player who goes first rolls all six of their dice and sets them down in front of them, revealing the combination shown on the uppermost die. This combination is called the "player's roll" for that turn. (Note: If any of your dice have numbers that are duplicated on other dice, you can either keep all six dice as they are and forfeit your turn, or choose any three different dice from those shown and re-roll the others.)

2) The opponent then rolls their six dice and sets them down next to the player's original roll, forming two separate stacks of three dice each (see photo). Only the topmost die on each stack counts as that particular player's roll for that turn; any other dice below it are disregarded.

3) The player then chooses one of their opponent's rolls and captures it by placing one of their own markers on top of it (see photo). They then take all three dice from that stack and set them aside face down in front of them, out of play for this particular turn; these are known as "captured dies". Note: You cannot capture your own roll, even if it matches an opponent's roll.

4) If at any point either player has no more moves available, they lose the game (see "Ending The Game" below).

5) Play then passes to the opponent, who follows steps 2-4 using their own set of three dice.

The winner is the first player to reach or surpass 500 points on their scoring track (or whatever target has been agreed upon before starting the game). This player is said to have "won the game" and their opponent automatically loses regardless of how many points they still have on their track. In addition, should either player run out of captured dies during gameplay, they automatically lose the game (see "Ending The Game" below).
